Are doulas required to  become certified?
No, actually certification is not required and you are not required to be licensed to become a doula.  However it is recommended if you are interested in being a doula to take a doula  or labor support course or training.

Is your training compatible with other certification programs?
Our curriculum varies we offer evidence based research to spiritual and traditional components to it.  Although we may offer some similar training it varies. Every trainer may offer a slight different coarse.  I also come with my own experience and  education in this field throughout my 6 years of being a doula. I also have over 15 years of experience working with women and children. I enjoy facilitating workshops and inspiring others to do work they love.  It is up to you to connect with a company or community that resonates with you.

Do you hire doulas?
No I do not hire doulas. You are not an employee. You work independently for yourself; however doulas that take our course and pass may have the opportunity to receive referrals.

If doulas are non-medical why does this training contain some medical information?
As a doula sometimes people may ask you medical questions. It’s good that you have some knowledge on medical information for yourself and clients.  Doulas do not offer medical advice but it’s always recommended to continue studying and learning .

Is this coarse recognized by DONA?
I was Trained by Amadoma Bediako  who is accredited by DONA international. I also became a certified birth Doula with DONA.  I respect the principles of DONA and also follow their code of ethics for doulas.  However this is not a DONA specific training. My name is Etienne Nina and there aren't enough words to describe how grateful I am to have met Ebony, and chosen her as my Doula. When we met, I knew she was the perfect Doula for me, as she never doubted my ability to have a VBAC. I felt at ease knowing she had assisted another mom in a similar situation. At the end of my pregnancy, my doctor unfortunately kept trying to push me into scheduling a repeat C Section. Ebony kept me positive, motivated, and informed about my rights as a mother and patient.

Etienne  (on the left)shares her story. She had a boy!  (His big sister is also holding him.

Merowe (on the right) shares her story. She had a girl!

I am truly grateful for every mom I have had the  opportunity to support They were so brave and so strong and followed their own strength and intuition. It was an honor to have been there to assist them and witness the birth of their beautiful children.

I am truly grateful for every single mother and family I have had the opportunity to work with.

I am Merowe Nubyahn, and I had the pleasure of having Ebony Alexander- Knights as my doula for my Home Birth experience...Let me just say that Ebony has this amazing ability to shift All situations in to the Most Empowering and Fulfilling one. She is Very Compassionate ,Understanding and Supportive. I want to give a brief background of situation. I have had 7 children in total ..5 Birthed Naturally Vaginally ...then the 6th one was delivered prematurely  Via Emergency Cesarean Section..I was given what they call a classical incision..where as my uterus was cut both horizontally and vertically (To read the rest of her story go to our success story page).
