A doula provides emotional and physical support to an expectant mother during her pregnancy and childbirth. She is present for that mother when she is in labor and when she gives birth to her baby. Their purpose is to help the mother to have a positive, safe supportive and empowering birth experience. They What is the difference between a Midwife and a Doula? Like a physician, a midwife attends the labor and delivery to safely bring the baby into the world. Midwives are trained to care for expectant parents with low-risk pregnancies. Providing prenatal care, annual exams, birth control, family planning, counseling, new born care and more. Doulas, on the other hand, focus on the needs of the mother, offering mental, physical, and emotional support. |

What if I want to have my baby in the hospital? Doulas work with you where you choose to have your baby. We are here to support you whether you have your baby at home, at a birthing center or in a hospital. So you accept clients who decide to have a home birth? Absolutely |
What are some of the things a doula can do to help a woman in labor?
- Stay with you constantly to provide comfort and support while in labor
- Be your personal coach
- Use massage and touch to help you to relax and rest
- Help you get into comfortable positions
- Help you get adequate nutrition and fluids
- Help you communicate your preferences to the medical staff and assist you advocating for yourself if needed
- Encourage, inform and reassure the dad-to-be
- Provide support and encouragement to both you and partner after bringing your baby home
- Provide breastfeeding support if and as needed
- Research and provide resources to you if needed.
- Studies show that women who use a doula can have shorter labors
- Less likely to need a C-section, request less pain medication
- Express a more positive childbirth experience.
- Moms who used doulas after birth may have more success breastfeeding.
